Magical Musical Mat
In Spring 2020, as an undergraduate research fellow at the Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM), I worked with Rachel Chen and Arianna Ninh on creating new modes for the Magical Musical Mat (MMM). I've continued working with Rachel since then, and most recently we've been exploring going past MIDI into synthesis and sample-based sound design.
MMM Modes
The MMM was built with a microcontroller called the Touch Board. The MMM operates in various modes that each have their own personalities and call for different types of interactions. The sound design for the first set of modes was created with the Touch Board's built-in MIDI controller. This video includes examples of some of the modes I designed for the MMM.
